Where is Gokyo Lake located?
Gokyo Lakes are located in the Khumjung Village Development Committee of Solukhumbu District in the Sagarmatha Zone in north-eastern Nepal. Gokyo Cho, also called Dudh Pokhari, is the main lake with an area of 42.9 ha (106 acres), and the village of Gokyo lies on its eastern shore.
How many days is the Gokyo Lakes trek?
The short trek to the lakes of Gokyo is about 9 days. But the recommended trek duration is about 11 days if you want to rest for a couple of days in the Gokyo area. Another great way is to explore EBC and then head to Gokyo which takes about 15 days in total.
How do I get to Gokyo Lake?
Starting your trekking adventure after the Kathmandu to Lukla flight, you will trek on the enthralling mainstream route of the Everest Base Camp Trek all the way to Namche Bazaar. From Namche, you will move along the ascending route toward Gokyo Valley, passing Dole and Macchemro; you will reach Gokyo Lakes.
How high is the Gokyo Pass?
Gokyo Pass or Gokyo Peak is at a height of 5,357 m (17,575 ft) meters above sea level. Gokyo village is 4,750 m above sea level and the pass is about 500m above the village.
How many lakes are there in Gokyo?
Although only five bigger lakes in Gokyo are known among travelers, there are 19 water lake systems in the Gokyo trekking zone. All these lakes are spread randomly over an area of 196.2 ha (485 acres).
Can you see Everest from Gokyo Lakes?
Yes, you can see the Everest summit and other 8000M peaks including Makalu, ChoOyo, and Lhotse from the Gokyo Lakes viewpoint. With a little diversion, the Everest base camp with the Gokyo Lake trek is also possible on this journey.
